The Legend

The coffee legend states that coffee was first discovered in what is now ethipopia by an arab goatherd  (goat hearder) named Kaldi. He discovered his father's goats running around in an excited fashion, butting each other and dancing on their hind legs. He was concerned that they had been snacking on were poisonous. The next day he found them healthy and eager to return to their previous days lunch location. Kaladi decided to join them and after chewing both the tasty muselage of the berries and the seeds themselves he found that he had the same desire to dance.

The True Mythology

The story has been passed down through generations of baristas at Mars Hill cafe clarifies a few of the less provable claims of the widely believed legend. In actuality the hearder's name was Carlos, the great, great grandfather of Juan Valdez. While grazing his Llamas in a yet to be discovered location in the mountains of central America he happened upon a lush area for his prized Llamas to eat. In this beautiful area they spied some unusual trees. His llamas were almost mystically drawn to sample the leaves and berries from these trees. Before the traditional time for siesta the llamas began to leap through the air covering amazing distances. The site made Carlos very curious and he tired some of the berries for himself. That day he skipped his own siesta and worked and played harder than he ever had before.
